So like the previous Pug Who Wanted To Be book, this one takes place during Christmastime, a whole year after the events of the first book. But this time, Peggy the pug is trying to become a reindeer so she can fly and find Santa Claus so she can make her family happy again after a series of unfortunate events happen to the family.
There actually is quite a bit of tension in this one! In her quest to find Santa Claus, she runs away from home, and she has no idea where she’s really going, so she gets lost. It has a happy ending, of course, but when you love dogs as much as I do, it’s still a little stressful to read about things that remind me of my now-deceased little doggie. Not long before my dear old Beagle/Bluetick Coonhound-mix Puffy passed away, she had gotten out of her backyard and ran away from home. My family and friends tried really hard to find her, but she ended up coming back on her own. I had been so upset and cried so much. But then she came home and I was able to love her for a while longer before congestive heart failure took her away from me.
Okay, that got sad really fast. Moving on!
I really like this book, and I really think 5 to 7 year olds will really like it too, if they like dog protagonists and like Christmas. I don’t own “The Pug Who Wanted to Be a Bunny” which is the next one in the series, so the next one I’ll be reading is “The Pug Who Wanted to Be a Pumpkin.” I get more of the books on Wednesday if it’s delivered on time, but I’ll still be reading them out of order if I finish the pumpkin one before they arrive. The other one I own right now is “The Pug Who Wanted to Be a Witch” which is one of the most recent ones.
Catch you later!
